Healing does not have a set timeline, but there are things that can encourage and support those in the process.
Reading Hospital Rehabilitation at Wyomissing (RHRW) will host their annual carnival on September 15 for current and former patients, their families, and staff in recognition of National Rehabilitation Week. The event is sponsored by the Reading Hospital Foundation.
During the week of September 18 to 23 this year, National Rehabilitation Week will be observed to raise awareness of the benefits of rehabilitation and the capabilities of people with disabilities.
A special treat for guests will be ice cream from Mr. Softee, as well as live entertainment from Keith Scharlach, also known as Mr. Nice Guy, the Berks County resident who suffered a traumatic brain injury. In addition, patients will also have the chance to throw shaving cream pies at members of Reading Hospital Rehabilitation at Wyomissing's leadership and care team.
“As we commemorate National Rehabilitation Week this year, we recognize our entire multidisciplinary team and their many contributions to our patients' recovery,” said Kelley Crozier, MD, Chair, Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation at Reading Hospital. “Our Rehabilitation Carnival is a fun and therapeutic event to provide patients, their families, and our staff with a space to celebrate our patients in their recovery journey.”
The carnival will take place rain or shine from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Healing Garden at Reading Hospital Rehabilitation at Wyomissing, 2802 Papermill Road, Wyomissing. Guests are invited to play a variety of carnival games put together by various teams at Reading Hospital Rehabilitation at Wyomissing such as:
- Brain Injury Team’s “Toilet Paper Toss”
- Stroke Team’s “Duck Shoot” with NERF Blasters and faux ducks
- Spinal Cord Injury Team’s “Fishbowl Toss”
- Amputee Team’s “Golf Par Tee”
- Parkinson Team’s “Rock Steady Boxing”
