The 2023 Reading Hospital Golf Classic, hosted by The Friends of Reading Hospital, will be held on Monday, August 7 at Berkshire Country Club, 1637 Bernville Road, Reading. The event is co-chaired by Betsy Power and Peg McShane.

This year’s event sponsors include:

This year, The Friends have raised nearly $100,000 in support of a new Cardiac Catheterization Lab at the hospital. Heart disease is the number one cause of death in the United States and an updated Cath Lab will offer quicker access to diagnosis and treatments with state-of-the-art imaging and leading-edge technology that is safer for patients and staff. In a Cath Lab, interventional cardiologists perform minimally invasive tests and procedures to diagnose and treat cardiovascular disease. In recent years, the number of heart and vascular patients at Reading Hospital has increased, with staff performing 2,500 procedures each year. To help meet the community's growing needs, an advanced Cardiac Cath Lab will be built.

“The Friends of Reading Hospital are a valuable part of the hospital team,” said Charles F. Barbera, MD, Reading Hospital president and CEO. “They are always eager to support initiatives that help our patients, team members, and the community. I thank them for working with the Reading Hospital Foundation to support the new Cath Lab so that our heart health team can treat patients in an advanced, new state-of-the-art facility. This will directly impact the lives of the patients we serve in our community."

As part of its efforts, the Reading Hospital Foundation is outfitting the upgraded Cath Lab. For more than 130 years, the mission of The Friends of Reading Hospital has been to provide funding for programs that impact patients, families, the staff at Reading Hospital, and individuals throughout Berks County. “A new Cardiac Catheterization Lab will have immediate benefits for our community by providing less invasive, safer procedures to diagnose and treat a multitude of cardiac issues,” said Sharon Keating, The Friends of Reading Hospital President.

“We are grateful for all the support and participation we received from our generous sponsors, golfers, and hospital team members,” Keating said. “Every sponsorship helps to ensure The Friends can assist the team at Reading Hospital to save the lives of our community members. We are proud to play a part in bringing a newly upgraded Cath Lab to the hospital.”
