St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children’s Chronic Lung Disease program in its Neonatal Intensive Care Unit and Next Steps clinic has been accepted into the prestigious Bronchopulmonary Dysplasia (BPD) Collaborative

BPD is the chronic lung disease that follows NICU care for respiratory distress in many premature infants. Infants with severe BPD present persistent challenges in care, complicating strategies for enhancing their long-term outcomes.

The BPD Collaborative consists of 34 centers across the US and one in Sweden. These facilities feature skilled multidisciplinary teams dedicated to the ongoing care of patients with BPD, particularly its most severe forms.

St. Christopher's Hospital for Children was selected to participate in the collaborative because of its combined multi-specialty program, which spans both inpatient and outpatient care for medically complex patients. The hospital offers a Level IV NICU, the highest level of care, and its Next Steps program, featuring a multidisciplinary team including a neonatologist, pediatrician, pulmonologist, nurse practitioner and nurse coordinator, that provides primary care and a medical home for children who require it after their NICU discharge.
