Mike Smith has volunteered at Pottstown Hospital for more than 22 years and has amassed more than 5,000 hours. His interest in volunteering at Pottstown Hospital began because he enjoys being around people and helping them out every day.
Mike said, "I've always wanted to be a volunteer since volunteering is in my heart. Then one day, I called Pottstown Hospital and a month later started volunteering."
Mike has covered all the departments and floors as a volunteer at Pottstown Hospital. His favorite part of volunteering is being around the patients, fellow volunteers, and hospital employees. He enjoys being in a medical facility where he can attend to people in our community.
Recently, Mike got a great comment from a patient. He intentionally skipped his lunch to attend to a patient, for which she called him an angel, and a hero who looks out for people. For Mike, this is the best feeling in the world.
Mike’s advice to anyone who is interested in volunteering at Pottstown Hospital, is to reach out to the Volunteer Coordinator Sharon Steinmetz. He also said, "Pottstown Hospital has a wonderful volunteer program, and the volunteer coordinator is a super nice person."
Volunteers at Pottstown Hospital donate thousands of hours each year and cover many of the departments and floors. If interested in volunteering at Pottstown, please call 610-327-7136.
