Phoenixville Hospital announced it has earned for a third time The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval® for Advanced Certification for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement. The advanced certification is for Joint Commission-accredited hospitals, critical access hospitals, and ambulatory surgery centers seeking to elevate the quality, consistency, and safety of their services and patient care. Awarded for a two-year period, the advanced certification was developed in response to the growing number of patients undergoing a total hip or total knee replacement surgery, as well as the increased focus on clinical evidence-based patient care as it relates to pain management, quality of life issues, functional limitation in mobility and the return to normal daily activities.
Phoenixville Hospital underwent a rigorous onsite review last month. Joint Commission experts evaluated compliance with advanced disease-specific care standards and total hip and total knee replacement requirements, including orthopedic consultation, and pre-operative, intraoperative, and post-surgical orthopedic surgeon follow-up care.
“Achieving Advanced Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement Certification recognizes Phoenixville Hospital commitment to provide care in a safe and efficient manner for patients,” said Rich Newell, President and CEO of Phoenixville Hospital and Pottstown Hospital. “I am extraordinarily proud of our orthopedics team for their dedication to continue to improve patient outcomes and provide our patients the high-quality care they deserve close to home.”
In addition to receiving this recent certification, the orthopedic service line at Phoenixville Hospital recently renovated their unit to include a new nurse’s station with the latest technology, updated patient rooms, and a dedicated gym.
“Phoenixville Hospital is pleased to receive certification once again as an advanced national center of excellence in joint replacement surgery from The Joint Commission,” added Charlene Burkholder, MSN, CRNP, Director, Orthopedic Service Line, Phoenixville Hospital. “Our philosophy of wellness, early patient mobility, and customized pain relieving protocols to possibly allow faster rehab and discharge after overnight stay and excellence in patient care is what makes our program unique. We have received top patient satisfaction scores since the start of our program.”
