Team members from the Reading Hospital Nutrition Services Department and Michelle Trupp, MSN, RN, CEN, Chief Operating Officer for Reading Hospital, volunteered to distribute Thanksgiving turkeys to Berks County residents at The Salvation Army in Reading on Tuesday, November 21. The hospital donated 500 turkeys, each weighing between 10-to-16 pounds.
Reading Hospital Nutrition Services enjoys giving back to the community by helping others, and the distribution event is one way they can do that. Every year, the team begins “talking turkey” in February to reserve the necessary quantity of items and ingredients, and the official order is placed in August.
“Making sure people are well nourished is part of the Nutrition Services team's mission,” said Rachael Wehn, MA, RDN, LDN, Director, Nutrition Services. “We especially enjoy this opportunity to provide families with the supplies needed to make a nutritious and well-balanced meal.”
“We are proud to partner with The Salvation Army to ensure individuals in our community have a warm meal to enjoy with their families," said Charles F. Barbera, MD, Reading Hospital president and CEO. “I’d like to extend a special thanks to our Nutrition Services team who organized our participation in this meaningful event."
