Reading Hospital Foundation Hosts Healing Garden Groundbreaking
at Reading Hospital Rehabilitation at Wyomissing

On Friday, June 28, Reading Hospital Foundation will host a groundbreaking ceremony for the new Therapeutic Healing Garden at Reading Hospital Rehabilitation at Wyomissing, located at 2802 Papermill Road. William M. Jennings, President and CEO, Reading Hospital, Katherine Thornton, President, Reading Hospital Foundation, and Kelley Crozier, MD, Chair, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, Reading Hospital will make remarks at 9:30 a.m. Media is invited to attend the event.

The Healing Garden, designed for patient rehabilitation, is expected to be complete in Fall 2019 and will feature a 1,500 square foot patio, two walking trails, a water feature with a pergola, and a putting green. The garden will contain more than 20 trees, shrubs, and perennials including Summersweet, Oakleaf Hydrangea, Blackgum, American Basswood, Bluestar, Wind Flower, Purple Coneflower, and Bee Balm.

"The vision for the healing garden was to create a space for patients to have therapy outside in a natural environment," said Jennings. "We know that spending time outdoors contributes to the physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs of patients, caregivers, family members, and friends." Jennings said.

Reading Hospital Foundation, which funds initiatives that improve healthcare in the community through innovation, education, and research, is recognizing the generosity of the donors. Gifts of $100 or more will be recognized on a plaque in the garden, and donors will be identified as Founding Supporters in commemoration of their gift.

"We appreciate the generosity of the 70 generous donors that made this project possible," said Thornton. "With their continued support, we are able to provide another source of healing to our patients, their families, and our team of providers."
