The Friends of Reading Hospital present $100,000 check to Reading Hospital's Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU).

On Monday, August 5, The Friends of Reading Hospital hosted 100 golfers at Berkshire Country Club for the annual Reading Hospital Golf Classic Tournament.

Thanks to the event’s success, $100,000 was raised to support critical care initiatives in Reading Hospital’s Level III Neonatal Intensive Care Unit (NICU). The unit offers the most advanced newborn care in Berks County - providing lifesaving services for critically ill infants with brain injuries, drug and alcohol addiction, heart and lung disease, infection, congenital anomalies, jaundice, and prematurity.

“The financial support The Friends provide to our NICU through the tournament is invaluable,” said Charles F. Barbera, MD, President and CEO of Reading Hospital. “When it comes to even our youngest patients, we strive to provide the highest levels of high-quality, compassionate care and these events allow us to continue to do just that. We are grateful and proud to offer families the latest equipment and approaches to monitoring their child’s health in a supportive environment.”

Attendees enjoyed an open range and putting green, lunch, and food stations throughout the course, an afternoon of golf with carts, followed by a reception and awards ceremony.

"For more than 130 years, The Friends of Reading Hospital have helped ensure that, through our fundraising efforts, our community members have access to the most advanced technology, programs, and education to support their health and wellbeing," said Victoria Edwards, Chair, Reading Hospital Golf Classic, The Friends of Reading Hospital. "Events like these allow us to continue our legacy of giving. Thank you to our donors whose generosity means everything to us and the communities we serve."
