On Wednesday, September 28, Reading Hospital Rehabilitation at Wyomissing (RHRW) will hold a carnival for patients, their families, and staff in recognition of National Rehabilitation Week. The carnival will take place from 11 a.m. to 2 p.m. in the Healing Garden at RHRW, 2802 Papermill Road, in Wyomissing. The Healing Garden is funded by the Reading Hospital Foundation. In the event of rain, the carnival will be held on Wednesday, October 5.
“We haven’t had the opportunity to host our carnival for the past two years due to COVID-19,” said Kelley Crozier, MD, Chair, Department of Physical Medicine & Rehabilitation. “This event is a favorite among patients, their families, and staff because it gives everyone the opportunity to recognize and celebrate the patients on their recovery journey.”
The carnival is open to current and former rehabilitation patients. Guests are invited to play carnival games and participate in activities designed to help patients with their recovery. This year, in addition to activities such as golf, canvas, and rock painting, patients will have the opportunity to throw shaving cream pies at members of the RHRW leadership and care team. Live entertainment will be provided by Keith Scharlach, also known as Mr. Nice Guy. Keith, a resident of Berks County, is a traumatic brain injury survivor.
The carnival is RHRW's culminating activity to recognize National Rehabilitation Week, which runs from September 19 to 25. The week is designed to educate people about the benefits of rehabilitation and the capabilities of people with disabilities.
Media is invited to attend the event. Photos will be available upon request. Masks will be required to attend the event.
