Reading Hospital – Tower Health today announced that it has achieved the Healthgrades 2021 America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award™ for the fifth consecutive year. The distinction places Reading Hospital among the top 2 percent of nearly 4,500 hospitals assessed nationwide for its consistent, year-over-year superior clinical performance as measured by Healthgrades, the leading resource that connects consumers, physicians, and health systems.

“This achievement is possible because of the hard work and dedication of our team members,” said William M. Jennings, Reading Hospital President and CEO. “They remain committed to providing excellent high-quality care for our patients, their families, and the communities we have served for more than 150 years.”

Recipients of the America’s 100 Best Hospitals Award are recognized for overall clinical excellence across a broad spectrum of care. During the 2021 study period, these hospitals showed superior performance in clinical outcomes for patients in the Medicare population across at least 21 of 32 most common inpatient conditions and procedures — as measured by objective performance data (risk-adjusted mortality and in-hospital complications).

“The hospitals that receive the Healthgrades America’s 100 Best Hospital Award pledge to provide the best clinical outcomes for their patients,” said Brad Bowman, MD, Chief Medical Officer, Healthgrades. “Hospital quality varies significantly between different organizations, and we commend Reading Hospital for once again achieving this award, as they set the bar for top-of-the-line care.”

Patients treated in hospitals achieving this award had, on average, a 26.1 percent lower risk of dying than if they were treated in hospitals that did not receive the award, as measured across 19 rated conditions and procedures for which mortality is the outcome.*

Ron Nutting, MD, Chief Medical Officer at Reading Hospital, added, “It’s a privilege to be a member of a team designated among the top 2 percent in the nation. This prestigious recognition from Healthgrades confirms that the work our team accomplishes, while continually striving to improve quality outcomes, positively impacts the health of our community.”
