On Tuesday, August 22, hospital employees gathered outside Reading Hospital’s clock tower to drop off Dream Boxes filled with donated school supplies for teachers and nurses.
2023 marks the 13th year that the Reading Hospital Magnet Champions have partnered with the United Way of Berks County to support the Reading School District through the Stuff the Bus campaign.
The Stuff the Bus campaign collects donations of school supplies to benefit students in need throughout the district. Reading Hospital Magnet Champions collect and sort donations of health and school supplies such as notebooks, pencils, and hand sanitizer. Items are then organized and packed into Dream Boxes for the designated classrooms.
More than 100 hospital departments adopted 104 classrooms and 21 school nursing offices at Glenside Elementary, Millmont Elementary, and Tyson-Schoener Elementary School in the Reading School District. Once all trucks were filled, the hospital team hit the road to personally deliver the Dream Boxes to each school's faculty.
“This event is so important to us and our local schools,” said Barbara Romig, DNP, Chief Nursing Officer at Reading Hospital and Tower Health. “We had such a great turnout and are so happy that we can provide this level of support to our local elementary school teachers and school nurses. Thank you to all the teams and departments who worked so hard to help collect materials for our community’s schools. A special thank you to the Nursing Magnet Champion Team who organized the collection and distribution of the donated supplies.”
