The Friends of Reading Hospital announced that the Reading Hospital Road Run will again return to West Reading this fall, on the morning of Sunday, October 16. The 2022 event will include a Half Marathon (13.1 miles) and a 5K (3.1 miles), with both routes primarily covering fast and scenic roadways around the Reading Hospital in West Reading and surrounding neighborhoods.

"We brought this event back to West Reading in 2019 with great success, went totally virtual in 2020 due to the pandemic, and had a scaled-back, but well-attended, version of the event in 2021," said Beth Kohl, 2022 Reading Hospital Road Run Committee Chair and The Friends of Reading Hospital board member. "For 2022, the Road Run Committee is looking to bring back all of the Road Run elements that the community and hospital have loved for many years."

Participants are encouraged to sign up early to take advantage of lower registration costs, with early registration pricing in effect now through Thursday, June 30. "The Friends hope everyone will save the date to run with us on October 16," said Kohl.

All registered runners will receive a short-sleeve wicking race shirt. Half-marathon finishers will receive a custom medal, and both events offer five-year age group awards and cash prizes for top finishers, to be presented during a post-race celebration.

"The community and the staff of the Reading Hospital have always consistently supported this event, making it a great opportunity for runners and their families to come together, be active, and be a part of raising funds for important initiatives that benefit the health and wellness of our community," said Kohl.

Projects and programs recently led by or supported by The Friends of Reading Hospital include a Mobile Mammography unit, donations of AEDs through HeartSAFE Berks County, NICU cycled lighting and webcams, PPE for local EMS providers during COVID-19, support for McGlinn Cancer Institute patient assistance fund, telemedicine technology for stroke patients, and many others.

Registration is open online now. Please visit RHRoadRun.com for more information and registration.

At the time of the race, Reading Hospital will follow the COVID-19 safety guidance from the CDC and Pennsylvania Department of Health.
