Reading Hospital Road Run raised $45,000 to support life-changing programs at Reading Hospital Rehabilitation at Wyomissing, which provides care to patients who have experienced functional loss or disability following an accident, illness, or injury.
More than 800 people registered for the annual event, hosted by The Friends of Reading Hospital, on Reading Hospital's campus on Sunday, October 20. Participants enjoyed a morning of races, health education, and family fun.
"The Road Run is a special event every year," Beth Kohl, President of The Friends of Reading Hospital, said. "But this year felt extra special. We are so grateful for everyone who showed up in support of the rehab hospital. We truly poured our hearts into this event to ensure there was something for everyone, and it was wonderful to see everything come together and the community having a great time."
This year, participants chose from a selection of courses, including a 10K, 5K, and free Fun Run. The run took runners and walkers through West Reading, PA, and across Reading Hospital's campus. Following the race, they were also encouraged to visit resource and activity stations, including an inside look at a TowerDIRECT ambulance, free Stop the Bleed training hosted by the Reading Hospital Trauma Center, and a warm-up station hosted by Reading Hospital Rehabilitation at Wyomissing, among others.
Additional activities included health and wellness information tables, free hair tinsel provided by Pixie Perfection Fairy Hair, a Teddy Bear Clinic hosted by TowerDIRECT, and local food truck vendors, such as Nonno Alby's, Wrasslin' Hogs BBQ, Queen's Café, Winne Tea Bar, and Munchiez.
"We are so grateful for all who came out to support our programs," Kelley S. Crozier, MD, Chair, Department of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, said. "Your support will improve the lives of many, and that is a beautiful thing."
