EMS providers are truly at the front lines of healthcare. They are the first to arrive in emergencies, providing critical pre-hospital care and lifesaving interventions to those in need. In recognition of National EMS Week, Tower Health recognizes and honors all EMS professionals. This is the 49th annual National EMS Week and the theme is, “Where Emergency Care Begins.”

EMS are highly skilled professionals including EMTs, advanced EMTs, pre-hospital RNs, paramedics, and wheelchair van drivers who assist in treating patients before and after their time in the hospital.

“EMS professionals are so important to the care continuum,” said Suzanne Wenderoth, MD, Tower Health Chief Medical Officer. “While en route to the hospital, these highly-skilled professionals provide life-saving services and maintain constant communication with our emergency teams to prepare for continuation of care started in the field. Last year, we received 45,216 patients at our four emergency departments via ambulance. I thank the EMS providers in our community for their continuous dedication and excellence.”

For those considering a career in EMS, the Reading Hospital School of Health Sciences educates future EMS professionals through its Emergency Medical Services program, where students can attend to become certified emergency medical technicians (EMT), advanced EMTs (AEMT), or paramedics.

Tower Health thanks all EMS professionals for their unwavering commitment to the communities they serve. Their bravery, skill, and compassion save countless lives every day.
