The Philadelphia School of Radiologic Technology at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children is a Joint Review Committee on Education in Radiologic Technology (JRCERT) accredited, 23-month, full-time certificate program that begins in August. St. Christopher's Hospital for Children radiologic program affiliates with Bloomsburg Medical Imaging (BS) | Undergraduate Programs | Commonwealth University of PA and Gwynedd Mercy University Radiologic Technology Program in PA in offering a 2+2, leading to a bachelor’s degree in radiologic sciences. Students not attending a 2+2 program can also come into the program with an associate or higher degree. Program graduates are eligible for American Registry of Radiologic Technologists (ARRT) Certification.

Radiologic technologists perform an important function in the rapidly growing branch of medicine known as radiology. They assist physicians who specialize in the use of X-rays and other forms of radiation to diagnose and treat diseases and injuries. As part of the radiologic team, technologists perform a vital role in a science dedicated to saving lives and alleviating human suffering.

Radiologic Technology Program Mission

Our mission of The Philadelphia School of Radiologic Technology is to graduate competent entry-level imaging professionals. Graduates will be capable of providing radiologic and associated medical services in a wide range of practice venues.

Application Procedures

To be considered for the program you must:

  1. Complete and sign the (SCHC) Philadelphia School of Radiologic Technology Application Form.
    1. A non-refundable application fee of $25.00 check or money order must accompany the application when submitted to the school.
  2. Provide two signed letters of recommendation from a counselor, teacher, or non-family member.
  3. Have official transcript with a 2.8 minimum GPA mailed to the school office. (All transcripts must be in a sealed envelope).
    1. Transcript must have document pre-requisites acquired within the past ten (10) years.
  4. All applicants must have an associate degree or higher upon entry into the program.
    1. Applicants in 2+2 programs must complete all required core courses for their degree from the university before applying to the SCHC School of Radiologic Technology.
  5. Submit the completed application before the deadline of February 28, in order to be considered for that year.

Admission Procedures

To be considered for admissions, an associate degree or higher from an accredited university is required or be enrolled in one of the 2+2 affiliated universities.

Program prerequisites:

  • Anatomy and Physiology I and II
  • Chemistry or Physics
  • Biology
  • College Algebra
  • CPR Certification
  • Criminal Background Check
  • Child Abuse Clearance

Admission to the radiography program is selective and interested students must follow the application procedure as follows:

  • Individuals interested in the radiography program must complete an application and submit required documentation.
  • The applicant will be contacted via email to schedule an in-person interview.
  • Upon completion of the admission interview, the Admission Committee will review and score all applications.
  • The Radiologic Technology Program Admissions Committee consists of the following members:
    • Program Director
    • Designated Faculty
    • Designated Clinical Preceptors
  • The applicant is notified in writing, between March 1 and March 31, concerning the decision of the Admission Committee.
  • Upon acceptance into the program:
    • The student must pay $700.00 acceptance deposit that will be applied towards tuition. This may be paid in two deposits - $350.00 upon acceptance then, $350.00 thirty days later.
    • The student must provide proof of health insurance, which will be monitored bi-annually.
    • The student will be required to have a physical performed at St. Christopher's Hospital.
    • The student must provide documentation of up-to-date immunizations and CPR certification.
  • The Program begins in August of each year.

Course of Study

Students must participate in the program 40 hours per week Monday through Friday. The first-year students are in classes three days a week and at their designated clinical site two days week. The second-year students are in classes two days a week and at their designated clinical site three days a week. The majority of the classes are held at St. Christopher's Hospital for Children, except three classes are held online.

The Philadelphia School of Radiologic Technology at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children has Affiliation Agreements with the following facilities:

  2. Temple University Hospital
  3. St. Christopher's Abington Outpatient Office
  4. Temple Health - Chestnut Hill Hospital

Clinical hours are 8 a.m. to 4:30 p.m., but Temple University Hospital also has a student evening shift from noon to 8 p.m. It is a possibility you can be assigned the evening shift during a TUH clinical rotation.

Program Refund Policy

If written notification of cancellation is submitted to the Program Director two weeks prior to the program start date, a fifty percent (50%) refund of the $700 advanced tuition fee will be refunded. No refunds will be issued following a two-week enrollment period.
