Why Use Our Burn Support Services
Burn injuries can have lasting effects on survivors and their families. Burn survivors and families must get the support they need to heal physically and emotionally.
Your child’s care, and yours, doesn’t stop after treatment in our Stuart J. Hulnick Burn Center, or our rehabilitation care. The burn center team offers ongoing opportunities for healing and support and to ensure your child receives the care needed to return to a healthy life.
Burn Support Programs
The burn center team is committed to offering programs that promote positive experiences for burn survivors and their families.
- Burn Camp. Summer burn camps are great places for children with burn injuries to meet other burn survivors. These camps offer kids a place to connect with others who have had similar experiences. Many of our own Burn Center team members volunteer at summer burn camps. Our Social Work team works directly with families to arrange for burn camp enrollment.
- School Re-entry. Returning to school after a burn injury can be scary for a child. The Child Life specialists at St. Christopher’s are available to facilitate your child’s return to school. Our team is available to meet with teachers and classmates to ensure a smooth transition back to the classroom.
- Survivors group. Our burn survivor support group — offered in partnership with the Phoenix Society for Burn Survivors — provides peer support for survivors, caregivers, family members, and friends. The group, called SOAR (Survivors Offering Assistance in Recover), meets regularly at St. Christopher’s Hospital for Children. For more information, call 215-427-SOAR (7627).
