Minimally Invasive Surgery

If you or a loved one is diagnosed with a condition that may require surgery, you owe it to yourself to learn about all of your medical options, including the most effective, least invasive surgical treatments available. Many of our experienced, board-certified surgeons have advanced training in minimally invasive procedures.

Compared to open surgery, minimally invasive surgical techniques use fewer or smaller incisions — or no incisions at all. These techniques are less invasive and less damaging to your body. Other benefits of minimally invasive surgery may include:

  • Less blood loss
  • Less surgical pain
  • Less scarring
  • Reduced risk of complications, including surgical site infections
  • Shorter hospital stay
  • Faster recovery

We offer a full range of minimally invasive techniques including:

  • Endoscopic procedures. These procedures use thin, hollow tubes fitted with cameras and lights to pass through natural orifices or openings in the body, and examine the digestive tract.
  • Laparoscopic surgery. The doctor passes a camera and surgical instruments through small incisions in the abdomen or pelvis.
  • Robotic-assisted surgery. This is a type of minimally invasive surgery that uses tiny surgical tools attached to robotic arms inserted into small incisions for more precise control, and a 3D camera to enhance the surgeon’s vision.

Short Procedure

Short procedure is for patients requiring a variety of surgical and diagnostic procedures, including endoscopy, colonoscopy, pain management, cardiac catheterization, venous ablation, liver biopsy, phlebotomy, intravenous (IV) infusion, wound care, chemotherapy, and more. It also serves as the general admitting area for all surgical patients having an ambulatory short procedure and some inpatient procedures. The Short Procedure Unit staff (consisting of registered nurses) will assure that all pre-operative testing, patient information, patient instructions, and necessary documentation are completed prior to either type of surgery or procedure.
