For some residents, conducting research can seem daunting. Our Research Director, Dr. Sigal, and Research Coordinator, Traci Deaner, have developed a user-friendly longitudinal experience that helps residents engage in projects that interest them, while still advancing emergency medicine and critical care through research. Residents have presented their work at regional and national conferences and become published authors on manuscripts.
In addition to academic research, scholarly activity includes writing case reports, including interesting cases or images from the clinical experience. We also conduct interdepartmental projects with our Trauma Service and Internal Medicine departments. Our department has taken the lead in working with all Reading Hospital GME programs in developing core curriculum in research with interdisciplinary lectures held once a month.
