John P Franko, MD

Chair, Department of Family and Community Medicine

Dr. John Franko received his B.S. in Biology from the University of Notre Dame and his MD from the University of Virginia School of Medicine. He completed his residency in Family Medicine at the Roanoke Memorial Hospital program which is now part of the Virginia Tech/Carilion Clinic School of Medicine. He initially practiced in a small rural community in south/central Virginia as part of his National Health Service Corp scholarship for medical school. He then opened his own solo practice in Danville, VA.

Dr. Franko transitioned to academic Family Medicine when he joined the faculty at the University of Virginia Department of Family Medicine in 1994. He was there for 13 years, serving in a variety of roles, including seven years as Residency Program Director. He left UVA to assume the role of Chair and Tenured Professor of Family Medicine at East Tennessee State University. He was in the position for nine years and left to assume the role of Senior Academic Chair of Primary Care and Chair of Family Medicine at Atrium Health in Charlotte, NC. While there he was also appointed as Professor of Family Medicine at the University of North Carolina School of Medicine in Chapel Hill. He joined the Reading Hospital Department of Family and Community Medicine as Chair in December 2019. In addition to his role as Department Chair, he was appointed Associate Chief Medical Officer of Reading Hospital in 2020 and System Medical Director of the Primary Care Service Line in 2022. His current faculty appointment is Professor of Family, Community, and Preventive Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine. 

Dr. Franko brings extensive academic and clinical experience in medical student and resident education, including curricular design and development. He has been a member of the Society of Teachers of Family Medicine (STFM) since 1994 and the Association of Departments of Family Medicine (ADFM) since 2007, including serving on the Board of Directors of ADFM and being President of the organization in 2022. His educational interests have focus on Evidence Informed Decision Making, Critical Thinking, and Point of Care clinical decision support tools. He has a passion for leader development and has assisted STFM, ADFM, and Atrium Health in the development and implementation of leadership development programs. Dr. Franko has also written, reviewed and managed grants from the Health Resources and Services Administration and participated in, supervised, and/or provided administrative oversight for a variety of research projects, including funded projects from NIH, NCI, PCORI, and the RWJF.

John C Sheffield, MD

Director, Family Medicine Residency Program

A native of New England, Dr. Sheffield joined the residency faculty in 2016 after nearly 10 years in private practice, followed by more than 10 years in academic family medicine.

Dr. Sheffield received his undergraduate education at the University of Pennsylvania, followed by medical training at the Medical College of Virginia. Since his family medicine residency days at the St. Margaret Memorial Hospital in Pittsburgh, he never lost his love for medical education and is now happily devoted to resident and medical student learning.

After gaining a wealth of clinical experience from his days working on a Native American reservation, university group practice, and his small private practice in New Hampshire, he returned to academic medicine and has previously been affiliated with the Penn State College of Medicine, The Good Samaritan Hospital, and Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. He has previously served in multiple residency capacities and roles, including inpatient/outpatient clinical care, health center leadership, medical student education, curriculum development, associate program director, and interim program director. He has been the recipient of multiple teaching awards in both resident and medical student education.

Areas of clinical interest include evidence-based medicine, inpatient internal medicine, primary care orthopedics, and primary care procedures.

On a personal note, Dr. Sheffield resides in Lebanon, PA with his wife, three sons, and an extremely friendly, hungry cat. Given a free moment, he enjoys gardening, caring for his tropical fish, physical fitness, and cheering for his favorite high school, college, and professional sports teams.

Jacqueline L Storer, DO

Osteopathic Program Director

Originally from New Jersey, Dr. Jacqueline Storer relocated to South Florida when she was a teenager and subsequently graduated Magna Cum Laude from the Honors Program at Florida Gulf Coast University. She then completed her medical studies at the Alabama College of Osteopathic Medicine. It was during her Family Medicine Residency at the Reading Hospital that she developed an eagerness to share her knowledge with others, and an interest in academic medicine. She joined our faculty immediately after her graduation from our program and became certified by both the American Osteopathic Board of Family Physicians and the American Board of Family Medicine in 2021. Shortly after joining our program as faculty, she accepted the position of Director of Osteopathic Education. Having a keen interest in undergraduate medical education, she also serves as the program’s Medical Student Clerkship Site Director. She was voted “Preceptor of the Year” in 2022.

Her professional interests include osteopathic manipulative treatment, musculoskeletal medicine, and preventive care. She is currently working to implement a primary care POCUS curriculum within our residency program.

On a personal note, Dr. Storer is a PADI certified scuba diver and enjoys spending her free time with her family and rescue dog.

Nipa R Doshi, MD

Associate Program Director

Dr. Nipa Doshi is a graduate of Loyola College and Hahnemann University School of Medicine. She completed her Family Medicine Residency training at Lancaster General Hospital. Following completion of a Faculty Development Fellowship at Lancaster General Hospital, she joined the Family Medicine Residency Program at Drexel University’s Warminster Hospital, serving as Associate Program Director and then Interim Program Director. Dr. Doshi joined Reading Hospital's Family Medicine Residency Program in 2007. She coordinates the curriculum, in addition to teaching residents and medical students in the inpatient and ambulatory settings. Dr. Doshi is an Associate Professor of Family, Community, and Preventative Medicine at Drexel University College of Medicine. She is also the Medical Director of the Western Berks Free Medical Clinic.

Luis A Murillo, MD

Faculty Associate Director Hanna Center for Primary Care Research

Dr. Murillo earned his bachelor's degree in biology with a minor in religious studies from Franklin and Marshall College. He earned his Doctorate of Allopathic Medicine at the Johns Hopkins School of Medicine. He went on to complete his Family Medicine Residency at Reading Hospital where he also served as Chief Resident in his final year. He completed a master’s in Public Health at the Johns Hopkins Bloomsburg School of Public Health. 

Professional interests include research focused on healthcare disparities and improved delivery of care to underserved communities. He is also an active member and Vice Chair of the Tower Health Population Health Committee. He currently serves as the Director of the Hanna Center for Primary Care Research. In his spare time, he enjoys spending time with his wife, son, and two dogs. His hobbies include music (guitar, drums, banjo, and singing) and martial arts training.

Cassiopeia Roychowdhury, MD

Faculty Associate, Family Medicine

Dr. Cassiopeia Roychowdhury joined the Reading Family Medicine faculty immediately following her graduation from Family Medicine residency, which she completed at Penn State Hershey Medical Center in 2019. Prior to this, she earned her M.D. from the Lewis Katz School of Medicine at Temple University in Philadelphia, PA and her Bachelor of Science degree in Psychology with a minor in Chemistry from the University of Pittsburgh.

Dr. Roy knew that she wanted to become a Family Medicine physician throughout medical school. She appreciates the continuity with her patients and enjoys the broad-spectrum of services provided by primary care such as working with all ages, providing acute and chronic medical care, as well as conducting outpatient procedures. During her two years as a Chief Resident at Penn State Hershey, she came to appreciate the continuous medical education, quality improvement, and teaching involved with academic medicine. She is very excited to start her career in the supportive and exciting environment of Tower Health Reading! In her spare time hobbies, Dr. Roy enjoys playing music, watching shows, exploring local eateries with friends, and traveling the globe.

Amy NH Girard, PsyD

Behavioral Medicine Faculty Associate Assistant Professor, Depatment of Psychiatry, Drexel University College of Medicine

Dr. Amy Girard was the director of the Tower Behavior Health DBT program, Behavioral Medicine Chronic Pain Management Program, and MBSR programs for 17 years. She attended Christian Theological Seminary School M-Div, received her MS in Psychology at Indiana State University, and received her PsyD in Health Psychology at Indiana State University. Dr. Girard is currently on the Behavioral Medicine Faculty in the Reading Hospital Family Medicine Residency Program and Assistant Professor, Dept. Of Psychiatry at Drexel University College of Medicine. Dr. Girard also has a great interest in research and currently sits on the Tower Health IRB where she has served for 15 years.

Her clinical interests include whole-person health and wellness, the use of mindfulness and evidence-based treatment of medical disorders, the intersection of wellness and spirituality, and enhancing wellness in general. Dr. Girard’s areas of expertise include treatment of personality disorders, treatment of chronic pain, treatment of eating disorders, and behavioral medicine. When she is not here at the hospital she enjoys traveling, playing piano, hiking, kayaking, and attending sporting events with her husband and children.

Victor A Cabello-Rivera, MD

Faculty Associate

Dr. Cabello earned his bachelor’s degree in biology from Franklin and Marshall College. He earned his Doctorate of Allopathic Medicine from Geisinger Commonwealth School of Medicine. Dr. Cabello knew he always wanted to become a Family Medicine physician even prior to medical school because of the broad-spectrum nature of the field. He completed his Family Medicine Residency at Reading Hospital where he served as co-chief resident in his final year and in this role, he developed an interest in academic medicine. His professional interests include Inpatient Hospital Medicine, Outpatient Medicine, Global Health, Sports Medicine, Medical Spanish, and care of underserved populations. On a personal note, he likes to travel with his wife, spend time with family and he is a soccer aficionado. 

Jeffrey A Zlotnick, MD

Faculty Associate

Dr. Zlotnick received his MD from the UMDNJ - NJ Medical School, completed his Family Medicine Residency at Franklin Square Hospital, Baltimore, MD, and earned his CAQ certification in Sports Medicine.

Dr. Zlotnick started in solo practice in Vernon, NJ, then academic Family Medicine at Warren Hospital (Phillipsburg, NJ), and Somerset Medical Center (Somerville, NJ), and part-time faculty at Capital Health (Trenton, NJ), while also serving as the Medical Director at Patient First (Bethlehem, PA). He later retired as Residency Director of Sports Medicine Education at Penn State Health/St. Joseph’s Family Medicine Residency in Reading, PA, as Director of the Sports Medicine/Concussion Clinic at PSH – St. Joseph’s, and served as Team Sports Medicine Physician for Albright College, Alvernia University, and Conrad Weiser and Schuylkill Valley High Schools in Berks County, PA. Dr. Zlotnick was also involved with the Rowan Integrated Special Needs Center at Rowan University School of Osteopathic Medicine until June 2023. 

Dr. Zlotnick serves as the Chair of the Commission on Continuing Professional Development for the PA Academy of Family Physicians.

Dr. Zlotnick has faculty appointments at Rutgers-NJ Medical School, Robert Wood Johnson Medical School, University of New England College of Osteopathic Medicine, and the Philadelphia College of Osteopathic Medicine. Dr. Zlotnick is a regional and nationally recognized speaker at the AAFP, NCFMR/S, PAFP, NJAFP, DAFP, and the AADMD.

Dr. Zlotnick is most proud of being the Senior Clinical Director and developer of the MedFest program - a joint initiative between Special Olympics NJ and the NJ Academy of Family Physicians. In 2016, Dr. Zlotnick was honored with election to the SONJ "Hall of Fame." The same year, he was also recognized with a Global Golisano Health Leadership Award by Special Olympics International.
